Floral in the Fall: How to Put Together the Perfect Autumn Wedding Bouquet

Jo Copsey

Updated: Mar 4

With the leaves slowly starting to turn and the breeze picking up slightly, many couples are now starting to think of how to match their dream day with the signs of the season change. Autumnal weddings are perfect if you want to incorporate some rustic charm into your wedding whilst catching the last rays of the summer sun, and with flower season slowly coming away, it means you can be as creative as you like with your bouquet! In this blog post, you’ll be able to see how to match your flowers to your autumn wedding flawlessly.

Fun fact: September was crowned 4th most popular wedding month in 2023, with just under 13% of weddings already booked in this year.

Choose a Consistent Colour Scheme:

An autumn bouquet instantly makes you think of the traditional colours of the season- burnt oranges, smoky browns, and sparks of greenery here and there. There’re plenty of flowers that cohere to this look, so don’t worry about them being out of season. Don’t feel as though you need to adhere to the traditional wedding colours, this is the perfect season to show off deep purples and really capture the shades of nature.

If you’re not feeling the traditional autumnal colour pallet there’s plenty of ways you can infuse other complimentary hues into your scheme. You might contemplate a gentler palette featuring blush pinks, warm peaches, and soft cream tones, perfect for crafting a more romantic and toned-down feel.

Consider The Bouquet Shape:

To structure or not to structure – that's the question! With various shapes to choose from – the timeless round, the elegant cascade, and the contemporary unstructured – it's important to ponder your dress style and form while deciding on the bouquet style. Reflect on whether you desire opulence or simplicity in your bouquet and select a structure and shape that complements that vision.

With season bringing a more countryside approach to wedding aesthetics, a loosely structured bouquet is often seen as more in style. If you’re worried about it not having enough of an impact, you can always incorporate more foliage into it. By adding texture with leaves, branches and reeds, you’ll truly capture the season’s spirit.

Add Unexpected Elements:

Instead of sticking to conventional blooms, why not consider adding a sprinkle of fun with tiny pumpkins, pinecones, acorns, or even feathers? These unexpected additions add a dash of whimsy and charm to your bouquet, making it a conversation starter for you and your guests. When placed thoughtfully amongst the flowers and foliage, these elements come together to create a bouquet that's as unique as it is beautiful.

Cherish the Memories:

Did you know that your bouquet can become a heartfelt memento of your special day? Consider preserving some of your favourite flowers or drying the whole bouquet to keep a piece of your autumn wedding alive. Displaying these preserved pieces will serve as a daily reminder of the love and joy you felt on that day, allowing you to relive those cherished moments each time you see them.

With beautiful sunsets and a gentle wind, the autumn ambience will give your wedding the beautiful backdrop it deserves. By honouring some of the most mesmerising changes of the season with your flowers, you’ll truly be embracing some of nature's best features whilst creating a beautiful and unique memory of your own.
